INTRO TO RIGHT- MODE ORIENTATION
--- Why & How We Learn & Think the Way We Do!
It has been well-established that our brains are made up of two inter-related parts, call them hemispheres or lobes. As we mature through infancy and childhood, about ninety percent of us will use the Left side of our brain more and more. The Left side is where much of what we have learned is stored, manipulated and retrieved. It handles letters and numbers. The Left-lobe is our TOOLBOX where skills and tools of all sorts are retained. The Right lobe is the part that we use in the very beginning, during the gestation period and after we are born. It is said to be the INTUITIVE (i.e., instinctive) half of the brain. It is also the part of the brain that can Visualize and handle abstract thinking.
Both halves, when properly
developed, become partners in controlling
our body, telling it what to do, how to do it and how to observe things like
safe practices, cautious behavior and knowing what is Right or Wrong from a
moral and ethical point of view. Unfortunately, a number of us -- when we are in
Elementary school -- do not make a subtle change in how new information is
processed in our dual chamber brain. Sometimes, the Right-lobe which is the
dominant brain during infancy and early childhood, refuses to let the Left-lobe
take over the learning of things that are formed by numbers and letters. When
that transition fails to occur, the child can no longer "keep up" with the other
children -- especially in a learning environment that is Left-brain oriented!
Since this problem is not yet accepted by education experts, those children who do not shift lobes will become lost in the school system. These are America's INVISIBLE Children! If you have a child who is creative but who is not doing well enough in school, he/she may be suffering from an anomaly that I call NDTS: Negative Dominant Transition Syndrome. Before allowing the child to be drugged with RITALIN, read this material including my book entitled WORDS FROM THE RIGHT-SIDE.
How well our two hemispheres are developed depends a great deal on how a child is raised by its parents and the kind of formal education he/she receives. Do not cling to this comment as an excuse for your failures, however. In time, usually between 15th-28th year, a person will have established himself or herself as an individual with unique capabilities and a set of personal assets that they will use the rest of their lives. I have one caveat to the above statement: many young people who suffer from NDTS sometimes adopt attitudes, lifestyles and associates that prevent them from reaching their in-born potential! If a child suffers from NDTS, special care and patience must be applied to help the transition take place. If he/she does not break-out by or sometimes during the 8th grade, care should be taken when considering remedial action.
I invite you to read WORDS FROM THE RIGHT-SIDE. It is complete via this Website. If it bores you, forget it! It may, however, remind you of someone you should tell about my book. You could save their lives, literally! At least, please, read the: FOREWORD
